CONFERENCES

The International Association of Butterfly Exhibitions encourages member facilities to actively participate in the following conference. At these conferences members can gather to exchange information, coordinate industry problem-solving, and discuss new ideas.

International Conferences

International Conference of Butterfly Exhibitors and Suppliers (ICBES)

November 13-16, 2007 Ecuador

Probably the most important international gathering for butterfly exhibitors is the International Conference of Butterfly Exhibitors and Suppliers (ICBES), hosted every other year.  Due to the need for participants to actively exchange ideas during this conference, ICBES participation is restricted to representatives from existing butterfly exhibits and the established butterfly farms that supply these exhibits with regular shipments of butterfly pupae. For more information, click here ICBES.

Special thanks to Dr. Enzo Moretto for establishing and maintaining the ICBES information.  Thank you to the IABE Conference Committee for coordinating IABE participation in this and other conferences.

Regional Conferences

European Conference of Butterfly Exhibitors and Suppliers (ECBES)

ECBES 2008: Conference hosted in Denmark by:
Flemming and Torben Jensen Bornholms Sommerfuglepark.

ABOUT THE AREA

We have so many exiting places and things on our island. The island is 25x30 km "big". We have beaches with sand so fine they used to use it in "time-glases" all over Europe. I don't know the translation for that, [hour glass (webmaster comment)] but you know the things to measure time with. The ones were sand runs trough a tiny hole between two glass "bubbles". We have Denmark's 3rd biggest forest with a big functional radar station, pointed at the former USSR, from "The cold war" with 3 big radars visible from a viewpoint. Big cliff coasts, some 50 meters high. The biggest castle-ruin in Scandinavia.

We have some amazing round churches, that some believe was built by the "Knight Tempplars". National Geographic has had a whole programme with them, and some historians say that the biggest of them could actually hide The Holy Grail ! Not very likely, but interesting in these "Da Vinci Code" times.

We have a lot of history and places that "tells a story" from the time we were occupied in WW2, first from the Germans, and then a year from the Russians. We were, as the only place in Denmark heavily bombed in 1945.

We have fantastic nature all a round us here on Bornholm, so there should be more than enough for a couple of days!

Invertebrates In Captivity Conference

July 29 - August 3, 2008

Another conference of broad interest to butterfly exhibitors is the Invertebrates In Captivity Conference (IICC), hosted annually in Rio Rico, Arizona, by the Sonoran Arthropod Studies Institute (SASI).  Each year this conference attracts many butterfly exhibitors and insect zoo industry leaders from around the world.  Unlike ICBES where attendance is restricted to established institutions, IICC is open to all participants, whether or not they have an existing facility.  This makes IICC an excellent opportunity for future exhibitor or suppliers to meet leaders in the butterfly exhibit and insect zoo industry, and learn more information about what it takes to create a new facility.  For more information about IICC, click on the SASI link below and click on the Invertebrates In Captivity Conference Section:

The IABE Conference Committee also actively works on coordinating seminars, workshops, paper sessions, and/or IABE business meetings at other industry gatherings.  For information on these meetings, members are encouraged to read the postings in issues of the IABE newsletter, International Flutterings.
